Diet Pills: Diet pills work using one or more of the following principles: (1) appetite suppression, (2) metabolic increase / Stimulant Effect, or (3) fat and/or carb blocking.

Diet Pills with Ephedra: Ephedra diet pills speed up the rate at which the body burns calories, increasing your overall metabolic rate.

Ephedra: Ephedra formerly referred to the plant Ephedra sinica E. Sinica, known in Chinese as ma huang, which has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for 5,000 years for the treatment of asthma and hay fever, as well as for Weight loss. However, recently ephedra is being used synonymously with the ephedra extract or ephedra viridis (leaf and stems). Ephedra Viridis and Ephedra Extract do not contain FDA banned ephedra alkaloids.

Ephedra Alternative: Researchers have recently learned that Citrus Aurantium, or "Bitter Orange", induces thermogenesis (the act of speeding up the rate at which the body uses calories), without affecting blood pressure and heart rate. Citrus Aurantium is a natural digestive aid, derived from the bitter "Seville" orange fruit. It has been used nutritionally for thousands of years. Citrus Aurantium is a safe, effective alternative to Ma Haung (Ephedra).

Ephedra Ban: The FDA ban on ephedra in 2004 only banned the ingredient ephedra alkaloids. Manufacturers have since reformulated products to comply with the ruling, by using other parts of the ephedra plant that do not contain ephedra alkaloids. These new versions of ephedra diet pills are legal in all 50 states.

Ephedra Dangers / Dangers of Ephedra: The dangers of ephedra may include severe skin reactions, irritability, nervousness, dizziness, trembling, headache, insomnia, profuse perspiration, dehydration, itchy scalp and skin, vomiting, hyperthermia, irregular heartbeat, seizures, heart attack, stroke, or death. Always consult a physician before beginning any type of dietary or weight loss supplement.

Ephedra Free: Ephedra-free diet pills often substitute synephrine for ephedra/ephedrine. Synephrine is the main "active" compound found in the fruit of a plant called Citrus aurantium.

Ephedra Side Effects: Ephedra can cause the jitters, and nervousness. People with ongoing health problems should consult their physician prior to taking products containing ephedra. Anyone with high blood pressure or cardiovascular disease should consult a physician before taking ephedra related products (to include OTC allergy and decongestants, such as Claritin and Pseudofed).

Ephedra Sinica: Ephedra sinica, a species of ephedra (ma huang), contains the alkaloids ephedrine and pseudoephedrine. Ephedra sinica is known to be more powerful than ephedra viridis and ephedra extract.

Ephedra Supplements: Ephedra supplements are still available in a new legal form (as ephedra extract or mormon tea) and when used as directed, can be a significant part of your overall program to reduce your body fat.

Ephedra vs. Ephedrine: Ephedrine is an isolated alkaloid derived from various parts of the Ephedra plant. Ephedrine is generally assumed to have been synthesized in a lab environment. Ephedrine was first synthesized in 1927 and has been used extensively in over the -counter cold and allergy medications. In recent years ephedra/ephedrine have been used to aid in weight loss.

Ephedra Viridis: Ephedra viridis is a species of Ephedra known by the common names green ephedra and green Mormon tea. It is native to the western United States, where it is a member of varied scrub, woodland, and open habitats. This shrub is made up of many erect bright green twigs.
