Things to Consider Before Creating Your Own Diet

Creating your own diet can be a great thing for your health. And I’m not talking about some random diet; I’m talking about creating the ideal diet that is perfect for you. It must suit your eating habits, fit into your lifestyle, meet your dietary preferences and allow you to achieve your goals.

Here are 9 things you need to consider before creating a diet:

Before actually going on a diet you have to have a clear goal. Why do you want to lose weight and how much do you want it? Do you want to build muscles? Or do you want to lose weight to be healthier? Whatever your goal is, you need to know it and write it down before everything else. Without a clear vision you would likely fail in your mission.

Calorie Intake

The obvious next step is figuring out what your calorie intake is going to be. This is by far the most important aspect of your diet. If you consume more calories than you burn, you are just not going to lose weight. So you need to limit your calorie intake and increase physical activities. There are so many online calculators that can help you figure out your maintenance calories.  This is the amount of calories that you can consume and not lose or gain weight aka maintain.

Marco Nutrients

It is also important to decide where your calories will come from. There are 3 macronutrients (carbs, fat, and protein) and it’s up to you to decide your ratio.  Many do 40% protein, 40 % fat, and 20% carb.  Others do 40% protein, 30% fat, and 30% carb.  This is a decision that you will have to make based on your goals and body type and you can adjust it on the fly.

Protein builds muscles and after calories, it plays the most important role in your weight loss journey. The best protein sources are chicken, fish, turkey, and occasional red meat.

Fat Intake

The next thing you need to consider is your fat intake. It is important to eat healthy fats and they are an essential part of everyone’s diet. Remember, don’t be afraid of fat!  Fat doesn’t make you fat.  Avocados, olive oil, sour cream, cheese, and nuts are always great sources of fat.

Carb Intake

Carbs give you the energy that your body needs to function properly. Be careful with carbs, but don’t be afraid of them.  Carbs from any green vegatables are always ok and starchy carbs like sweet potatoes are recommended after a good workout.

In this phase of planning you need to focus on covering food choice, meal frequency, nutrient timing and cheat meals. You need to create a diet that you can follow. If you can’t live without chocolate, then you should include it in your diet. Of course you need to limit the intake, but it is okay for you to have an occasional snack. It all comes down to creating a plan which makes you comfortable.

Supplements are just that…supplements.  They should supplement a good diet and workout plan.  The combination of ephedra+caffeine offered on can really help boost both your energy levels and fat loss.

Your diet alone will be enough for you to lose weight. But many people like to supercharge their weight loss efforts, plus cardio is of course great for your cardiovascular health.  And it makes you feel good…..when you are done with it of course.  You can walk, run, ride a bike, play some kind of sports – the sky is the limit. Don’t forget that you need to be physically active for at least 30 minutes, so adjust your pace accordingly.

Without a proper motivation, everything fails and your diet is not an exception. If you take a look at any successful athlete you can see a strong desire for a success in their eyes. That motivation drives them forward and that is the reason why they made it. There will be days when you don’t feel like getting up, let alone working out. You need to have a strong motivation that will push you beyond your limits and I always say that your health is the best motivation you can have. After all, we all want to be healthy.

As you can see, there are many things you need to consider before creating a diet. Make sure that you know why you are doing this and be focused on your goals. Put a poster up, change your background picture on your phone to someone with your goal technique, tell your friends your goals, or enter a competition.  Do whatever it takes to stay motivated.  Eating healthy and exercising will be great for your overall health, and that is one great reason to start your weight loss journey. Plus, you will feel and look awesome and it doesn’t get better than that. Good luck!
