Weight Loss – Motivation »

Imagine having a 185 pound person jump on your back and have to carry them around for 10 minutes.  Sounds exhausting right?  Joanna Pearson did it for years!  Until she lost 185 pounds and became a totally new person.  It’s amazing to me when I lost 10 pounds, I can’t imagine what she felt like when she lost 185!

How did she do it?

Pearson’s personal training consisted of strength training, muscle confusion, cardio, boxing and outdoor exercises. “I maintained a healthy diet, limiting my carbs and increasing my protein and kept a strict exercise regimen,” she said.

Not too surprising, it was a combination of strength training, cardio, and boxing along with a healthy diet that allowed her to lose so much weight.  Notice she wasn’t spending hours on end on a treadmill or elliptical, which is detrimental to weight loss.  She was lifting weights and throwing in cardio as well.  That’s an awesome combination for fighting fat and looking good.

And guess what?  It took awhile for Joanna to lose all that weight…about two years or so.  Patience is the key when you have to lose a lot of weight.  Anything more than 3lbs a week is too aggressive and will probably lead to burnout and lapses.  Even someone as successful as Joanna was prone to lapses.  She gained 35 pounds after losing all of her weight due to stress from her job and home life.  Sounds familiar right?  We all have that. However, Joanna was able to do something that a lot of people aren’t and loss 20 of those 35 pounds by making a couple adjustments.

The weight loss roller coaster is real and dangerous.  Luckily Joanna was able to step off before it got out of control.  Many people aren’t able to and end up gaining all the weight back that they lost.  We discussed the roller coaster in more depth here:  check it out.

Joanna is an uplifting story that hopefully motivates you to start or continue your weight loss journey.  Whether you have 5 or 50 pounds to lose, she is an inspiration that you can achieve anything with the right plan and attitude.  Good luck on your weight loss and feel free to leave a comment with any questions!
